Position Overview: As a Trainee in our award-winning Urban Landscapes Team, you will have the opportunity to learn and enjoy the outdoors of Queanbeyan-Palerang’s parks and gardens, bushland, playgrounds, trees, and garden plantings, weed control and sports ground upkeep. You will also be provided the opportunity to learn how to operate small machinery including mowers, chainsaws, tippers, irrigation systems and spray machinery among others. Whilst learning on the job, you will have the opportunity to undertake studies to successfully complete a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens.
As part of the position, Council will meet 100% of costs for course fees and any other costs associated such as prescribed textbooks.
Who we are looking for: The Urban Landscapes Team are looking for a highly motivated self-starter, who has a keen interest in the Horticulture/ Parks and Gardens industry, and is ready for physical hard work. The successful candidate will also have good communication skills, along with the ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment.
Working with us: Council has a learning and development program where cadets are offered opportunities to combine practical and real work life experiences to support and enhance the qualifications obtained. The successful candidate will also be working during an exciting stage of economic development within the Queanbeyan-Palerang area with numerous major projects planned and ongoing.
